Jan Phyl Village
Revitalization Association
Meeting Minutes
The
March 22nd meeting was held at the PCSO District Center on Avenue G
at 7:00 PM. The meeting was called to
order by President Charles Tucker. The
February minutes were read by Secretary Thea Crosier and accepted.
Code
enforcement officer Harvey Green announced new Swift Mud WATER
restrictions. The restrictions cover a
five-county area and will be strictly enforced and offenders fined. (Please see your local utility bill for
details.) Basically we are now under
ONCE a week watering restriction with NO weekend watering at all. You may water either 6 PM until Midnight
….OR Midnight until 8 AM only. Watering
days are as follows, according to house number:
Address
ending in 0 or l = may water Monday
only.
Address
ending in 2 or 3 = may water Tuesday only.
Address
ending in 4 or 5 = may water Wednesday only.
Address
ending in 6 or 7 = may water Thursday
only.
Address
ending in 8 or 9 = may water Friday
only.
Mr.
Green ‘spoke concerning the many cases his office is currently processing. There are over 60 cases pending ~ with many
of them going before the Board on April 16th in Bartow. Harvey answered many questions from JPV
residents, concerning specific active code violation cases. One resident asked what could be done
concerning a neighbor’s pool that has black dirty water and is unusable and a
breeding ground for mosquitoes and snakes.
She was advised to call the county health department. The subject was again brought up about cars
parking right along the street ~ on the right of way. The Sheriff’s department said they can enforce a no parking from
pole to pole on the right of way ~ but they would have to blanket and ticket
the entire JPV area consistently and not just a street here or street
there. Concerning the white car that is
often parked near the corner of Glad and Sydney Circle, Thea said she would
send a letter from the organization asking as a courtesy, for the owner to park
in their driveway (which is almost always empty.)
Code
Enforcement officer Tammy McCue gave a brief report, saying she’d opened 22 new
JPV code violation cases this week.
Many current JPV cases will go before the Special Magistrate hearing in
Bartow on April 19th.
Past
Secretary Martha Bruce has made recent calls concerning ditch cleanup near the
Fire Station.
President Charles Tucker brought up the idea of a future garage sale and kids day. He says that “Bounce House” will furnish a “bouncy” room for the kids to enjoy. This was briefly discussed and tabled for a decision at later meeting.
Sheriff’s
Dept. officer Jamie Harrell and his partner have been going door to door in JPV
– introducing themselves and passing out their business cards. They have been letting residents know about
our Revitilization group and encouraging them to attend meetings.
Jamie said in the process of going door to door they
apprehended several criminals and even located a stolen car! They recently arrested two teenager’s who
evidently have been responsible for home invasion robberies and car theft
recently in the JPV area. In January
the Sheriff’s office arrested seven teenagers who also had been on a crime
spree. Since these arrests, crime in
JPV has dropped about 80%.
Officer Harrell is still interested in planning some
activities for JPV youth ~ such as a kids fishing trip. If you have ideas or
would like to help with this, please see Jamie Harrell at the next meeting on
April 22nd, or you may contact him through the Sheriff’s station.
The winner of the 2007 “Chance Drawing” was Cynthia Hampton of Winter Haven. Cynthia is the daughter of JPV resident Betty Mae. CONGRATULATIONS Cynthia !!!
Three representatives from the JPV Fire Station were on hand to tell about the future move of the JPV Fire Station. They explained that originally they were a Volunteer statin and not intended to be a full service fire station. As years went by and the need grew, they ended up housing fireman but are not really equipped for that. The proposed site of the new fire station will be at the end of Spirit Lake Road West ~ down near the pistol range. This move will not happen right away – as funding must first be obtained, which is a lengthy process. They hope to build a station that will meet our needs for the next twenty years – and not something that will quickly become obsolete. The new station will house 2 trucks and EMS will also eventually house in the new station.
